@Zachary: I definitely think that being able to laugh at ourselves is important, and I loves me some gamer humor. Hell that's one of the reasons I like to play, the laughs!

@Kaeosdad: You are definitely correct that this just a symptom of humanity. It does happen in all aspects of life, but I like to think that we can change our behavior. And this may be some of my own elitism seeping in, but I think that roleplayers are smarter than the average heckler and this kind of crap is beneath us.

I think the problem is just people being people. This same issue comes up in all aspects of life when you think about it. The best example I can think of is to think back to when you were a teenager. Remember how big of an influence the type of music you listened to along with your opinions on other types of music had on who you hung out with? It might have not been music. Maybe it was the type of clothes you wore, or the car you drove. The point is people are stupid and like to group together for stupid reasons. Some people are cool about it and couldn't care less about how you do what you do, others are compelled to come up with labels like twink, munchkin, powergamer, etc.... and that's where the social problems begin.

Very nicely put. I'd love to see a little less "one-true-wayism" in general. We all try to find the style of gaming that's right for us--some of us get uppity or overly excited about our discoveries, other people are sensitive about their long-held preferences, and that's how we get flame wars. I like it when folks are able to sit back, have a laugh at some of our foibles, and keep it all in perspective.

@Viriatha: Unless the player is complaining how boring playing the same thing over and over again AND refuses to try something different, then I don't have a problem. What is boring for me, may not be for other people. How else can I explain the compulsion for some people to go to church every Sunday morning?

I would say the cardinal sin would be to not have fun, and if playing the same thing over and over is what someone thinkgs is fun, who am I to dictate otherwise?

There's only one gamer I don't like - the one who doesn't try, who plays themself in game after game after game, no matter what you say to them or what you do. That's boring and boring is the cardinal sin in something called a game!
